How to enjoy this fruit
A rounded fruit with a brown, slightly furry skin and a broad cap near the stem. Inside is bright yellow-orange flesh around large seeds.
The flesh is naturally stringy and fibrous. Remove the large seeds; they are not part of the portion to eat.
When it’s ready
Check the edge of the broad cap: it becomes lighter as the fruit ripens. The fruit should also smell pleasantly sweet and give a little under gentle pressure. If it is still very firm, leave it indoors, away from sunlight, and check daily.
How to eat it
Cut open, separate the orange flesh from the large seeds and enjoy fresh. Expect a hearty, fibrous texture with sweet flavours that can suggest mango, pumpkin and honey. You can also blend the flesh and strain it for juice.
How to store it
Keep firm whole fruit indoors while it finishes ripening. Once ready, enjoy promptly. Refrigerate opened or separated flesh in a covered container.
