How to enjoy this fruit
A large fruit with overlapping brown, snake-like scales, approximately twice the size of normal snake fruit. Inside are white segments around hard seeds.
The scaly skin and hard seeds are not eaten. Individual fruit sizes vary; ‘jumbo’ describes fruit approximately twice the usual size.
When it’s ready
This fruit is eaten firm and crunchy. Do not leave it out waiting for a soft, custard-like texture. Once peeled, the flesh should be white and crisp.
How to eat it
Pinch the pointed end to break the scaly skin, then peel it away and separate the segments. Remove the hard seeds and enjoy the crunchy white flesh. The flavour is slightly sweeter than regular snake fruit.
How to store it
Keep whole fruit in a cool place and enjoy promptly. Once peeled, place the flesh in a covered container in the fridge to help prevent it drying out.
