How to enjoy this fruit
A small fruit covered in overlapping brown, snake-like scales. Beneath the peel are pale segments with pink-to-red flesh around hard seeds.
The scaly skin and hard seeds are not eaten. The depth and pattern of the red flesh vary naturally between fruits.
When it’s ready
This fruit is eaten firm. Do not leave it out waiting for a soft, custard-like texture. Once peeled, the flesh should be crisp and juicy. Pink-to-red colouring with pale areas is normal for this variety.
How to eat it
Pinch the pointed end to break the scaly skin, then peel it away and separate the segments. Remove the hard seeds. Enjoy the juicy flesh fresh; expect a sweet-tart flavour that can have a slightly astringent finish.
How to store it
Keep whole fruit in a cool place and enjoy promptly. Once peeled, place the flesh in a covered container in the fridge to help prevent it drying out.
