Wood Apple
Limonia acidissima
Wood Apple has a hard, rough shell that opens to reveal aromatic brown pulp. Its bold sweet-tart flavour and thick texture make it an unusual fruit to explore fresh, in drinks or in chutneys.
Why You'll Like Wood Apple:
Flavour & Texture:
Rich, tangy and strongly aromatic, with notes often compared to tamarind and dried fruit. The fibrous pulp is very different from a crisp eating apple.
Choose Your Quantity:
Two options only: 1 fruit (approximately 500 g) or 2 fruits (approximately 1 kg total). Weights include the hard shell and seeds; individual fruit size varies.
Perfect Ripeness Guide:
The shell stays hard even when ripe. A ripe fruit develops a noticeable aroma; inside, the pulp should be brown and aromatic. Do not expect the shell to soften.
How to Eat:
Wash the shell, wrap the fruit in a clean towel and carefully crack it on a stable surface. Scoop out the pulp, keeping shell fragments out. Separate the seeds and coarse fibres before blending or using the pulp in drinks.
Storage:
Keep whole fruit in a cool, dry place away from direct sun. Refrigerate opened pulp in a covered container and use promptly.
